Introduction
“This is the first generation in history where children have outpaced their parents in the use of technology.” Millennials Go To College, Neil Howe and William Strauss. As a parent, I knew I was behind the curve when it came to monitoring my teenagers' use of the internet. By the time my son was 12 he knew how to delete History and cover his internet tracks by erasing Temporary Internet Files . By the time he turned 13, he knew how to bypass Norton's Parental Controls . Occasionally he left his Internet Messaging activity open, and I admit, snooped. I was shocked, but didn't react right away. Instead, I learned about some of the social happenings of our local middle school; things that would surprise all but the most liberal baby-boom parent. Some of my suspicions relating to a few of his friends were confirmed, but at the same time, some things I learned were pleasantly surprising. This went on for a while, but eventually I had to react. I knew I would be giving up my sources but we believe that my intervention saved him and our family from unimaginable grief and heartache. Other parents might not be so fortunate.

In addition to a child's vulnerability, picture a parent sitting with their coworkers or supervisor at lunch and the police show up. The parent is accused of downloading inappropriate video clips of 14 year old girls “WHAT?!” It matters very little that the 14 year old son downloaded the clips. Even if the parent is not charged, this experience will haunt them. In this electronic age kids commonly share, at light speed, tips on legal highs, where to obtain substances, which drugs can be detected, how to defeat drug screening, who will act out sexually, links to inappropriate websites, and who knows what else. The notion that kids know more about computers and the internet than adults leaves parents, educators, and conventional youth group leaders feeling uneasy at best.

General Overview:
Initial Services: To paraphrase a recent adage, our services will empower school administrators, youth group coordinators, parents, etc to “Think globally, act locally.” Our initial approach is to provide speakers via school districts, church groups, and other community programs. We present a three part information session for adults only. The program begins with a brief introduction of the dynamics of The Millennial Generation , an up-and-coming nomenclature referring to today's youth. The body of the current presentation focuses on electronic communications and is designed to adapt to changing technology.

Part One is presented by college-age adults who have been active members of the internet community. Presenters share their experience and insight relating to the value of the internet, the draw of the online community, and the inevitability of risk.

Part Two includes internet technology tools parents can use to protect, monitor and even recover their child's activity on the web. Parenting styles and circumstances vary widely. This session provides a broad range of software based security and safety systems that enable each parent to choose the best strategies for their family. From laying down ground rules to covertly watching, we offer power and choices.

Part Three is an opportunity for parents to voice their concerns, ask questions, and share what has and what has not worked for them. We crate a caring environment that provides an ideal forum for parents to support one another, come to the realization that they are not alone, and resolve their fears and feelings of powerlessness in this new technological age.

All participants are provided free access to the password protected section of our website, and are given the option of purchasing a menu of tools and services.
