“SaveMyKid.org” Formed in Lake County to Educate and Inform Parents and School Administrators about a New Age of Personal Security Threats
New non-profit organization has developed a comprehensive program that provides knowledge about internet security threats facing today's younger generation.
Painesville , OH – July 10, 2006
A new national organization, “SaveMyKid.org” has been formed right here in Lake County Ohio to help families and school administrators protect school-age children from new personal security threats on the internet. Today's children, from elementary to high school age, are faced with a rapidly-growing set of new-age threats from the internet.
“For all of its virtues, the internet also provides a very real threat for our children,” says Neal Britton, president of SaveMyKid.org. “Predators have direct access to our kids in our homes and in our schools, through instant messaging, chat rooms, online games, social networking (MySpace/Friendster/Facebook), and email, Britton adds. This new age of personal security threats is very new and SaveMyKid.org was founded to share knowledge and information that adults can use to protect their children.”
SaveMyKid.org has developed a 90-minute program for parents and school administrators. Part One is presented by college-age adults who have been active members of the internet community and openly discuss the draw of the online community and the inevitability of risk. Part Two includes a review of internet technology tools parents can use to protect, monitor and even recover their children's activity on the web. Part Three is a forum where parents can ask questions, share experiences, and learn more about what children really face today.
SaveMyKid.org offers real-world solutions for a rapidly growing problem that most parents and school administrators are unaware of. Today's youth, often called the “Millennial Generation” are the first group in history to outpace their parents in the use of technology. While many parents feel powerless in control of internet predators, most youth feel more invincible than ever.
